Look before you lay out
A photograph already contains a hierarchy. Light, texture and the direction of a gaze tell us where to look. We study those relationships before deciding where a headline should sit.
Cropping is a design decision
A crop can make an image feel open, compressed, formal or intimate. Check it at every breakpoint. A compelling desktop composition may need a completely different focal point on a phone.
Let images disagree
Not every image needs the same scale. A sequence becomes more memorable when a close detail interrupts a broad view. Keep the treatment coherent, then allow the subjects to create contrast.
